Lombok Vacation Travel Guide

Asia

When you arrive in Lombok, you’ll immediately see why this island in the Indonesian archipelago is lovingly called “Bali’s little sister.”

Lombok is located between Bali and Sumbawa, and its easy accessibility has made it a gem of a vacation destination. The island is home to just over 3 million inhabitants, and your tour of Lombok will reveal a quiet, relaxing place to spend a getaway. You’ll realize it as soon as you step outside the island’s high-tech international terminal; once the doors close behind you, you’ll wonder if you’ve traveled back in time.

Life moves a little slower in Lombok. Senggigi Beach, a resort town, is a popular home base for those who are exploring the island. From there, you can easily reach several Lombook sightseeing hot spots. Head through Pusuk Pass, where you can make friends with some of the local monkeys. Ready for some shopping? Make your way to the lively beach town of Tanjung, where you can find artwork, food, and souvenirs to bring home.

Take a step toward understanding the mixed cultural heritage of Lombok when you wander through Pura Meru, Lombok’s largest Hindu temple. This is the place to take in the quiet, contemplative beauty of nature; stop at the Mayura Water Palace, a giant pavilion floating on a manmade lake, and breathe in the sweet scent of jasmine hanging in the air.
