Kilkenny City Travel Guide

A tour of Kilkenny City, Ireland, is to step back through time.

Stroll down streets laid out during the medieval era, sip tea in an ancient cathedral, and visit pubs that have served drinks through the centuries. Any Kilkenny City sightseeing is steeped in history and local lore, though you can enjoy it all with a dash of modern comfort and civilization.

Kilkenny City tourism often centers on Kilkenny Castle, a massive stone fortress built in 1195. The present castle is an enlargement of and improvement over a previous structure, whose walls protected medieval Kilkenny from raiders. Some of these walls and their towers are still present throughout Kilkenny City. You can tour the castle itself to get a taste of how the nobility lived hundreds of years ago; walk through grand halls with high, arched ceilings, study family portraits, and snap some pictures of traditional suits of armor.

After a long day of exploring the castle and wandering along the streets of Kilkenny City, enjoy a meal in one of the many historic buildings scattered around the downtown. There’s even more history waiting for you to discover tomorrow.

Once the living quarters of the royal family, the palace itself was built in the 15th century, and sprawls across 110 acres. The famed Changdeokgung Palace Secret Garden is one of the palace’s primary attractions; when built, it was a royal retreat, inaccessible to commoners. It is now open to the general public.

The garden is a quiet, lush place, and many of its plants are hundreds of years old. You can sit by the pond and marvel at its beauty, or continue your Changdeokgung Palace sightseeing and view the rest of the royal villa and its ornate decoration.

Jeju-do Island Travel Guide

Next time you’re ready to walk through nature, pay a visit to Jeju-do Island.

This small enclave, located about 55 miles off the coast of South Korea, is remembered in history as “The Island of the Gods.” You’ll see why it has this nickname when you embark on a Jeju-do Island tour, and wander through its many natural wonders. Spend some time at the exquisite Cheonjiyeon Waterfall, or walk through the miles of paths that run along the coastline for a breath of fresh oceanic air. You can also spend hours in the Bijarim Forest, surrounded by ancient trees that reach over 80 feet into the sky.

Jeju-do Island sightseeing isn’t just about the flora and fauna, though. You can let your imagination run wild at the Trick Art Museum, or remember simpler days in childhood at the Teddy Bear Museum. Should you tire of Fuerteventura’s beaches, head inland to explore the island’s amazing volcanic landscapes and villages. Take the winding roads up to Mirador Morro Velosa on Mount Tegu for the best views on the entire island, then visit Puerto del Rosario, the island’s capital.

With it’s long Spanish history, Fuerteventura is also home to many romantic buildings and churches such as the parish church at La Oliva and the town hall in Pajara.

Santiago de Chile, a city of extremes, is surrounded by the world’s longest mountain range, driest desert, largest ocean and southernmost grassy plains. The cosmopolitan South American capital has the perfect mix of both historic and ultra-modern attractions.

The lively Plaza de Armas houses the divine Metropolitan Cathedral and the National History Museum. Santa Lucía Hill is the place where the city was founded by the Spanish in the 16th-century and the Chilean Museum of pre-Colombian Art shows what life was like here before colonial rule.

Manchester Travel Guide

Manchester is a city of firsts. It was the epicenter of the Industrial Revolution, the place where mankind first split the atom, and the birthplace of the modern computer.

The many chapters of Manchester’s story come together in Castlefield. Here you’ll find the remains of a Roman fort, Bridgewater Canal, and some of the mills which once generated incredible wealth for the city. In the background, Beetham Tower is a symbol of a city again on the rise.

Manchester’s crowning glory is its Town Hall, built to rival the great buildings of London. During the Industrial Revolution, Manchester’s merchants went on a spending spree, scouring the world in search of cultural treasures to fill their stately homes. Many of these treasures now reside in the Manchester Art Gallery and the Manchester Museum.

In 1653, the Chetham Library became the country’s first free public library and has been open to all ever since. Two hundred and fifty years later, one of the city’s greatest philanthropists, Enriqueta Rylands, unveiled the John Rylands Library, dedicated to the memory of her textile magnate husband.

Housed in a restored Edwardian pump house is The People’s History Museum, which celebrates those who challenged Britain’s rigid political and class systems. At the world’s oldest surviving railway station, you’ll find The Museum of Science and Industry, while the Imperial War Museum North reminds us of the human cost of warfare.

Explore the city’s musical heritage in the Northern Quarter, and check out Canal Street, which perfectly encapsulates the Mancunian ideals of tolerance and good times. Learn more about the city’s footballing history at the National Football Museum, or time your visit for a match at Old Trafford.

Rock-Hewn Lalibela - Ethiopia

Take a tour of Rock-Hewn Lalibela in Ethiopia.

In Ethiopia- beneath its surface- are some of the most fascinating churches in the world. These amazing tower-like constructs are cut out of the rock surrounding them. The churches were likely commissioned by King Lalibela and built between 12th and 14th centuries.

According to one legend, angels helped in the work to speed up the construction. The interior of the churches are filled with intricate carvings and beautiful tapestries of biblical scenes. Because they are carved out of the mountains, the churches possess a striking natural beauty. The Lalibela churches have been used continually throughout the years and still hold regular services.

Take a tour of Copán Ruins in Honduras.

Copán, in the rainforests of Central America, is a place that begs the mind to lose itself in legend, imagination, and fantasy. More elusive than Athens or Cairo, Copán begets secrets of an ancient world, a mysterious civilization.

A product of the Mayans, the ruins today stand stoically silent, letting visitors only guess at their once loud voices. The once thriving civilization Now only echoes of collapse. A place of alluring ambiguity, deep in the heart of the Central American rainforests.

Dracula's Castle - Romania

Take a tour of Dracula's Castle in Romania.

It is a place associated with terrors of the night and a nefarious monster. But in reality, Bran Castle, also known as "Dracula's Castle", is a place of beauty. The serene castle is quietly settled in the woods.

Considering its dark reputation, Bran Castle is actually a very bright and clean place. The castle was built in the 13th century by the Saxons as a fortress against the Ottomans. Vlad "the Impaler", upon whom Dracula is partially based, used this castle during raids.

Visitors to Bran Castle may be surprised to find how lovely this supposedly evil place is.

The Great Wall of China - China

Take a tour of Great Wall of China in China.

It is one of the world's most famous man-made structures, and the largest. The Great Wall of China is an enduring symbol of strength and empire. The Great Wall was built from 220-206 BC by China's first emperor, Qin Shi Huang. It was later restored and expanded during the Ming dynasty, in the 15th century.

Even today, it seems almost mythical as it winds and climbs through the Chinese hills. There are parts of the wall that are destroyed or ruined, but huge stretches remain pristine. Incredibly, all the sections of the wall put together run for nearly 4,000 miles. There are many segments of the Great Wall that are open for people to walk along.

St. Basil's Cathedral - Moscow

Take a tour of St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow, Russian Federation.

It looks more like a cluster of brightly colored hot air balloons than a cathedral. This is St. Basil's, or the "Cathedral of the Intercession of the Virgin By the Moat". This flamboyantly shaped and colored building is one of Russia's most important churches.

The cathedral was started in 1555 as eight chapels built around a larger ninth. There have been several theories about the design of St. Basil's, but no certain answers.

The cathedral has had several additions, and the whole church narrowly escaped destruction under Stalin. St. Basil's is no longer a church, it now operates as a museum.

World's Most Bizarre Landscapes

Take a tour of World's Most Bizarre Landscapes.

I'd like to show you the world's most bizarre landscapes. A breath-taking creation, Bolivia's Salar de Uyuni, is unmistakably the most expansive salt flat on earth. The over 10,000 square kilometer plain, far from city life, is teeming with hotels made of salt blocks, satellite calibration stations and even a train cemetery.

Lying on the coast of Yemen, is Socotra Island, a haven of strange yet lovely plants and animals. A third of the rare life forms found here are exclusive to the island. In addition to the surprising landscape are enthralling views of the amazingly blue surrounding waters.

The region of Cappadocia in Turkey has a record of inhabitance dating to the 6th century BC. The high plateau characterized by intermittent crags creates an ideal locale for cave dwellings. The many towns situated in this region have taken advantage of the sublime natural building materials found in this semi-arid highland.

Spanning extravagantly over an approximate 350 square kilometers of land, China's Stone Forest, from afar, looks like a woodland covered with tall thin trees. They are in fact prehistoric rock formations which in addition to their classic stone pillar formations can also uncannily resemble a variety of animals and plants.

Western Egypt is home to the White Desert, so named for its irregular stark white land patterns. Though these drifts may look like snow this arid landscape is home to opulent natural chalk formations which stretch far into the horizon line.

Tour of Life in The Sahara Desert

Take a tour of Life in the Sahara Desert in Morocco.

Almost as large as Europe, it is the world's largest desert except for Antarctica. Although the Sahara is mostly inhospitable, desert plants and animals have managed to survive here. Among those animals are humans, roughly 4 million of them, who dwell in the sands.

Many of these people have adopted special ways of living to survive the desert climate. A good number are nomadic and follow the scarce resources of food and water. Some permanent civilizations, notably the Egyptians, have managed to make the Sahara their home.

For many, there is a rugged beauty to the desert that must be recognized and respected. For example, the awesome Saharan dunes can look like waves in an ocean of sand.

10 Of The World’s Creepiest Underground Caves

Here are 10 of the world’s creepiest underground caves.

While bats and bugs are among the most common denizens of deep, dark caves, supernatural and other particularly chill-inducing inhabitants are said to be occupying a few of them as well.

Number 10. Mammoth Cave. America’s national parks aren’t all about hiking and camping, some offer ghost hunting as well. Among the many spirits said to be roaming about is that of Floyd Collins, an explorer whose leg got pinned by a rock. He perished underground while waiting for help.

Number 9. The Killing Caves of Phnom Sampeau. Though great efforts to beautify this locale have been made over the years, the horrors of the genocide that occurred here are still evident. The bones of those killed at the hands of the Khmer Rouge remain in the cave, which served as a repository for the bodies of the slain.

Number 8. Catawba Murder Hole Cave. It is a long drop to the bottom of this underground chamber in Virginia, and its opening is very large. Over the years, many have seen it as an opportunity for adventure, but it is rumored one man used it to get away with murder. He lured his victim to the cave, stole his belongings, then sent him over the edge to his death.

Number 7. Bell Witch Cave. As far as unsettled spirits go, Kate, who occupies this subterranean Tennessee spot, is an especially nasty one. Though she started by terrorizing and even killing people above ground, one popular theory is that she now hangs out mostly below it. Some, however, believe the cave merely serves as a passageway between her netherworld home and the realm of the living.

Number 6. Kabayan Mummy Burial Caves. In the days before both the Spanish and Christianity spread through the Philippines' island of Luzon, mummification was a common practice among some groups. The preserved bodies were stored in remote caverns, and many remain there to this day.

Number 5. Krubera Cave. The dark, cold and wet lower reaches of this more than 7,000-foot Abkhazian tunnel are seldom explored. In the 4 weeks it took one research team to get relatively close to its bottom, they found themselves immersed in deep pools of murky, freezing water, and surrounded by creepy things that defied identification.

Number 4. Gomantong Caves. Geologically speaking, the Borneo cavern’s most immediately notable feature is its 300-foot tall opening. Beyond that, it is best known for the mountains of bat feces and the incredibly high number of cockroaches, centipedes and scorpions amongst them.

Number 3. Ellison’s Cave. Don’t be fooled by its astonishingly beautiful appearance. The pit of this Georgia cave is the deepest known in the US, extending roughly 600 feet below ground level. Attempting to reach its lowest point has been the final act of many explorers and adventurers.

Number 2. Hodge Close Quarry. When viewed from a particular angle, the cave's reflection above the British quarry’s frigid lake resembles a skull. Despite the natural warning sign, many have entered the water. Some never returned. In 2005, a diver reported that he nearly became one of the lost when he, startled by what appeared to be a human body, came up to the surface too quickly.

Number 1. Hellfire Caves. In the mid 1700s, these chalk caves were significantly upgraded by England’s Sir Francis Dashwood, the founder of the Hell Fire club. The membership was comprised largely of aristocrats, but what they did at meetings is not clear. It is rumored they gathered for the purpose of casting spells and partaking in other pagan rituals.

Mykonos Travel Guide

History, legend, and beauty are what Mykonos, Greece, is all about. Even its name is drawn from myth: Mykon, the first ruler of Mykonos, was purportedly the son of Apollo.

You don’t need to be fully versed in Greek myths to enjoy your trip, but before you begin your Mykonos tour, get to know some of the island’s local legends. In the old stories, Mykonos hosted a battle between Zeus and the giant Titans. The large rocks that are scattered over the island are said to be the remains of the Titans, which were left where they fell.

You won’t spend your all of your Mykonos sightseeing staring at rocks, though. Why not learn more about the local history in Mykonos Town, the largest community on the island? For instance, its windmills were built in the 16th century by the Venetians, who ruled the island until the 18th century.

The windmills are the place to visit for outstanding views of the harbor and another dose of local lore.
Much of Mykonos Town is built in the medieval Venetian style; it is a maze of small lanes and whitewashed buildings. This community has been a Mykonos tourism hot spot since the 1950s thanks to its variety of restaurants and nightclubs, and for good reason. Eating, dancing, and ocean sunsets—what better combination could you ask for?

Johnston Canyon Travel Guide

As you explore legendary Banff National Park, you’ll come to Johnston Canyon. A tour of this beautiful part of Alberta is well worth your time if you love the outdoors.

Sightseeing in Johnston Canyon begins with winding down Bow Valley Parkway. Once you arrive in the canyon itself, you’re in for a treat. During the summer, Johnston Canyon is a green, forested place full of wildlife, but winter is when it truly shines. When there’s a chill in the air and ice clings to pine needles, Johnston Canyon transforms into a snow-blanketed wonderland. The towering walls of the canyon lend a quiet, stoic sort of tranquility to the trails and pathways within, creating a world of remarkable stillness.

Once you arrive, embark on the Johnston Canyon Ice Walk, which carries you past streams and striking frozen waterfalls. Snow and ice cling to spruce and aspen trees, glittering in the sunlight. If you’re lucky, you might spot elk, moose, and even wolves.

Johnston Canyon tourism is appropriate for visitors of all ages and walks of life. You can follow an easy, paved path to the Lower Falls, or set out on a longer hike to visit the Upper Falls. Experienced hikers can take in the quiet beauty of the inkpots, a set of six small, spring-fed pools. Be warned—you may wish to bring snowshoes and cleats, as the pathway can get slippery.

Killarney Travel Guide

The small town of Killarney is tucked at the base of MacGillycuddy’s Reeks, Ireland’s largest mountain range. This charming community has been a popular spot for European visitors since the 1800s, thanks in part to its striking surrounding woodland and temperate climate. Killarney’s tourism has been a major boost for its economy; aside from Dublin, there are more hotel beds in Killarney than in any other Irish community.

Start your Killarney tour with a walk down High Street or College Street, where you can try out some authentic Irish fare. Grab a drink in one of the town’s many pubs, or stop in at a café if you want to forgo the alcohol. The town continues to hum along even after the sun goes down; if you’re a night owl, you’ll love spending the later hours checking out eateries, cafes, and nightclubs.

Any Killarney sightseeing should include Killarney National Park, which is located just two miles from the town. This gorgeous landscape is home to wildlife and a number of Killarney’s famed tourist attractions. Wander through some 24,000 acres of lakes and mountains, which are home to red deer, ospreys, and even Arctic char.

Ready to be impressed? Killarney National Park also houses Ross Castle, a genuine medieval tower perched on the shores of Lough Leane. Looking for something a little less medieval? Tour Muckross House, a 65-room mansion that once hosted Queen Victoria. Before you head back to town, grab a picture on the Old Weir Bridge. How old is it? No one is entirely sure, but historians think it may have been constructed in the 1500s. Like Killarney itself, the bridge remains an endearing place to visit.

Times Square Travel Guide

When you’ve explored Central Park and Midtown Manhattan, it’s time to tour Times Square.

This is the glowing center of the New York Theater District. When you picture New York, Times Square is probably the second thing that comes to mind (after the city’s famous skyline), with its neon signs, giant buildings, and constant stream of humanity coming and going. Times Square adopted its name in 1904, after the New York Times moved in. The newspaper has since moved on, but the moniker stuck.

Once you arrive in the Big Apple, head on down to the center of Times Square, where you’ll find a plaza for you to sit, hang out, and people-watch. Shop at the many stores lining the Square, or lean back to see the top of notable buildings belonging to businesses like Hershey and M&M. When the sun goes down, the lights shine even brighter; follow the signs and billboards to the theatres, where you’ll find the musicals, comedies, and dramatic performances you didn’t even realize you were searching for.

Your Times Square sightseeing isn’t over after you take in a play, though. Why not explore some of the various restaurants and cafes that are open late at night? After all, New York is The City That Never Sleeps—why should you?

Central Park Travel Guide

New York City’s Central Park, which is made up of lakes, gardens, and meadows, spans more than 50 blocks. It was originally envisioned as a space where anyone – no matter what their station in life – could meditate and interact. These days, America’s most famous urban center hosts over 30 million visitors per year.

You’ll find a multitude of things to do if you’re sightseeing in Central Park. Sit down for a picnic on the Great Lawn, or wander through the park’s bridges and pathways, looking for its many sculptures. If you know where to look, you’ll find Hans Christian Andersen and Balto the sled dog. Traveling with a loved one? Why not share a kiss at the Bethesda Fountain and Terrace? Alternatively, you can rent a boat from Loeb Boathouse and attempt to impress your sweetheart with a trip around the lake.

If you’re a fan of Shakespeare’s plays, your Central Park tour must pause at the Shakespeare Garden, which features the flora and fauna mentioned in his works. Beatles fans, don’t forget to pay homage at the Strawberry Fields Memorial, a 2.5-acre section of the park dedicated to the memory of John Lennon.

It’s safe to say that there’s something in Central Park for just about everyone. Whether you’re sending a remote-controlled boat across the Conservatory Waters or admiring the view from Belvedere Castle, you’ll find a number of wonderful ways to spend your day.

Log Riding Festival - Japan

Logriders risk their lives in a rare and dangerous festival in Japan. It's log-riding Japanese style, which makes it far more exciting and a little bit dangerous. The race involves five to six men tumbling over a mountain top on a ten tonne log that comes crashing down a steep slope with no guarantees if the rider will still be on he log at the end of the road.

Logriding in Suwa city, Nagano prefecture is believed to be a sacred ritual which goes back over a thousand years. It is common for a log-rider to fall and be crushed to death by an oncoming juggernaut during the race-- injuries are common and almost inevitable. Most outsiders feel one has to be a little crazy to participate in this unusual sport.

Honolulu Travel Guide

Welcome to Honolulu, the capital of Hawaii. Stationed on the island of Oahu, Honolulu is ready to show you surf and sun like you’ve never seen before. Whether you’re here to live the life of a beach bum or want to explore the city’s lush tropical surroundings, you’ll find everything you’re looking for on your Honolulu tour.

Hawaii had a pretty explosive inception—Diamond Head Crater, also called Leahi, started life as an active volcano. Don’t worry; it’s since gone dormant, which means you can climb to the rim and take in a truly brilliant view of the coast. Head back down to the water and go paddleboarding or swimming; “Honolulu” means “sheltered bay,” and the beachfront here lives up to its name: It’s calm and sheltered year-round.

Atlanta Travel Guide

Atlanta, Georgia, is home to 5.5 million people. When you venture into the lush foliage that engulfs much of Atlanta and frames its many skyscrapers, you’ll immediately understand why it’s referred to as “The City in a Forest.”

An Atlanta tour must include the Atlanta History Center. Learn about the city’s roots as a railways terminal, as well as its role in the Civil War, when it was nearly burned to the ground. Fact became fiction when Margaret Mitchell featured Atlanta as a major setting in her novel, “Gone With the Wind,” and you can learn about the author and the book at the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum.
Stop by the Martin Luther King Jr. Historic Site to learn about the Civil Rights leader, and pay your respects at his final resting place. From there, your Atlanta sightseeing should continue at the Georgia Aquarium, where you can meet some beluga whales, swim with whale-sharks, and get up close and personal with sealife in the touch tanks.

Cap off a beautiful day with a trip to Stone Mountain Park. If you take the Summit Skyride, you’ll get an outstanding view of the city.

Fort Lauderdale Travel Guide

Once a Spring Break hot spot for college students, Fort Lauderdale has gradually evolved into an upscale resort town in Florida that is full of museums, bars, restaurants, and excellent shopping.

We hope you like water, because your Fort Lauderdale tour will feature beaches, ponds, and the canals that link the Everglades to the Atlantic Ocean. You’ll also see some jaw-dropping vehicles, from high-end yachts to powerful sports cars, all of them brought down by “snowbirds”: travelers from northern states staying in Florida to escape harsh winters.

When you aren’t fishing from the piers, swimming at the beaches, or shopping at Las Olas Boulevard, your Fort Lauderdale sightseeing should include a trip to the various historic locations. Why not look at the King-Cromartie House, which is part of the Riverwalk Tour? While there, you’ll get a good idea of what life was like in early 20th-century Fort Lauderdale. Here’s a hint—it wasn’t all shopping.

Head to Sunrise Boulevard (north of Las Olas Boulevard) to continue your Fort Lauderdale sightseeing. Along “The Strip,” you can wander around in your swimsuit and flip-flops, ducking in and out of stores and restaurants and interspersing your activities with trips to the beach to sunbathe. Don’t forget your sunscreen!

Lanzarote Travel Guide

Lanzarote is the easternmost island of the Spanish archipelago known as the Canary Islands. Lanzarote was created by volcanic forces millions of years ago and its people have embraced the beauty of its stunning landscape in unique and creative ways.

Over the generations, many myths have abounded about the Canary Islands. Its original inhabitants believed the volcanic mountains to be the home of the gods, while early scholars believed the area to be the uppermost mountains of the Lost City of Atlantis.

With its spectacular landscapes, organic architecture and striking beaches, Lanzarote is perhaps the most magical of all the Canary Islands.

Manrique believed that no building on the island should be higher than a palm tree, and his passion for the local environment meant that most of the villages of Lanzarote have maintained much of their authentic flavour.

Head to Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote’s main tourist town and enjoy views across the harbour to the volcanic mountains of Papagayo. Guided by the visionary hand of César Manrique, Lanzarote learned many years ago to embrace the unique gifts bestowed on it by Mother Nature. This island understands the true nature of beauty and as you watch the sun setting over this magnificent island, so will you.

Phuket Travel Guide

Exquisite beaches and a pulsing nightlife is why Phuket, Thailand’s largest island, is a can’t-miss destination. This is one of Thailand’s tourism hot spots, as it’s full of resorts, spas, and gorgeous scenery mixed with modern amenities. On any given day, you can watch the sunrise from a spot on the beach. Once you’ve taken in the island’s natural beauty, put on your bargaining shoes, as there is a world of outdoor marketplaces to discover.

Your Phuket sightseeing will probably include taking in plays and concerts—ranging from popular bands to traditional Thai performances—at the local theaters. If you’re looking for something a little more physical, visit one of the island’s many theme parks, where you can ride elephants, scream your way through roller coasters, and take pictures of rare white tigers. After those thrills and chills, take some time to visit the museums and temples dotting the coastline of Phuket; some of these structures are quite ancient, and exude an atmosphere of peace and tranquility.

If you’re a fan of dining out, Phuket is the perfect place to find great local restaurants. Relax in a café situated beneath palm trees, or take in an extraordinary seafood dinner at a fine restaurant. Round out your evening with a trip to a beer hall, capped with a visit to the night market to score that perfect bargain.

Belfast Travel Guide

Belfast, located on the northeast coast of Ireland, is an eclectic mixture of history and modernity. Scattered throughout the countryside you’ll find Iron Age forts, medieval castles, and more modern construction dating to the 20th century. Belfast got on the fast track to modernizing in the 19th century, when it became known as a shipbuilding mecca. Among the famous vessels built at Belfast through the decades are the RMS Titanic and its sister ships, Olympic and Britannic.

A great deal of Belfast’s modern identity stems from over three decades of political and religious strife. These issues have influenced much of the city’s public art, as a great number of murals and statues depict people and events from those times. A walk around this easily accessible city is a walk through that troubled past.

You’ll probably be hungry after exploring so much of the city’s history on your Belfast tour, so swing on down to one of the local pubs to drink a pint and share a meal with some of the locals. Just walk down the street and head into what venue catches your eye; the city is easily navigable on foot, and you never know what sort of delightful gallery, park, or restaurant you’re going to find just around the bend.

Haeundae Beach Travel Guide

Welcome to Haeundae Beach, one of Busan, South Korea’s most famous tourist destinations.

Sightseeing in Haeundae Beach can take up your entire trip, so plan out your time accordingly and get ready to join the party. This bustling district, located an hour from Gimhae International Airport (PUS), is loaded with casinos, resorts, and eateries. You can wander the streets for hours and never run out of new restaurants to try or clubs to dance in and out of.

When you’ve finished enjoying the party in the downtown area, tour Haeundae Beach itself. The sandy white beachfront is just under a mile long, and provides the perfect place for a stroll along the seashore or a dip in the sea. Haeundae Beach is popular with travelers and Korean residents alike, though it sees the bulk of its international visitors in the summer months. If you’re visiting from July through August, stake out your claim on the beach early in the morning, as the sandy strip vanishes beneath a sea of umbrellas by early afternoon.

Head to nearby Dongbaeseom to try your luck at fishing, or gather with hundreds of other beachgoers to enjoy one of the many festivals held there throughout the year. Haeundae Beach is a fine spot to view the New Year Sunrise—if you’re visiting during that time, you can gather with thousands of other revelers to watch the sun come up and start the new cycle. The celebratory feeling suits Haeundae Beach perfectly.

Busan Travel Guide

Busan is the second largest city in South Korea, only smaller than Seoul, which is about 217 miles to the north. The seaside port city has natural charm, and Busan tourism is quite welcoming to visitors of all ages. Enjoy a blend of modern conveniences and Korean culture on your vacation to this coastal community.

Begin your trip to Busan with a visit to the famed Haeundae Beach, which is among the most popular stretches of sand in South Korea. Visit in early June, and you can witness the annual Sand Festival where people create elaborate sand sculptures.

After a morning in the sun, make your way to Taejongdae Park, a designated Busan monument and home to a rock beach. Take a walk along one of the many paths, marvel at the more than 200 types of evergreen trees, and visit the lighthouse.

Busan tours would not feel complete without a stop at the Jagalchi Market, which serves fresh fish. Because it’s right next to the port, you are almost guaranteed the day’s freshest catch. The marketplace vendors also offer up dried fish and produce for sale.

Once you’ve successfully experienced some of the best outdoor Busan sightseeing, put on your shopping shoes and head to Shinsegae Centum City. This place is the world’s largest department store, as verified by Guinness World Records™, featuring tons of brand names and an indoor ice rink.
